About

I’m a software engineer. My wife is a tech project manager. Now that our two daughters are old enough to explore the outdoors safely, hiking has become our main family activity. We try to get on trails together as often as we can, and those days outdoors are some of the ones we value most.

Years ago I sold most of my old gear when marriage and kids came along. When we started hiking more seriously again, I had to rebuild our kit from scratch. I spent a lot of time comparing options, watching for deals, and learning what we needed to stay safe and comfortable. I wanted gear that worked without paying name-brand or outdoor-store markups. That experience led to this store.

Woods Outfitters focuses on modern hiking gear that works well for families and solo hikers. We look for capable products with good design and fair pricing, then make it simple to get what you need either as individual pieces or through Bundle & Save options. The goal is straightforward: good gear, fair prices, no guesswork.

I’m not positioning myself as an expert. I am someone who enjoys planning trips, has spent a lot of time on the trail with my family, and wants the process of getting equipped to be more straightforward than it often is. On this site, along with the gear,  you’ll also find a section called On the Trail. Here I share what has worked for us (and what hasn’t) in plain language, along with trip reports of some of our favorite hikes and destinations.

We’re starting lean with hiking gear. Check back soon as we expand into overnight and backpacking equipment over time. Thanks for stopping by.
